Community Hike Recap: South Poway Loop with the San Diego Bird Alliance
On Sunday, July 13, Preserve Wild Poway hosted a wonderful community hike along the South Poway Loop, joined by friends from the San Diego Bird Alliance. We gathered at South Creek Park in Sabre Springs and set out together at 9 AM for a scenic 3-mile trek with an elevation gain of 433 feet.
Along the way, hikers enjoyed sweeping views of Sabre Springs and southwest Poway, while learning about the area’s endangered habitats and diverse bird species. This section of trail is part of the Sea to Sea Trail, also known as the Trans-County Trail — a 155-mile system stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Salton Sea.
It was a fantastic morning of bird watching, connection, and discovery. Many thanks to our dedicated volunteer, Bob Boeller, who organizes our hikes and keeps our 499 subscribers informed each month. We're also grateful to the San Diego Bird Alliance for sharing their expertise and enthusiasm.
We always remind participants to come prepared with water, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes — and to be mindful that hikes may be cancelled in the event of an excessive heat warning.
